3 work buddies from Oslo visiting Tromsoe

I got an inquiry about a day rental of the boat early June. They where active in sport fishing in Oslo area and keen to try test their skills hunting the halibut in the Tromsoe area combined with a work trip. Great idea for team building.

I met up with them the day before at their hotel with the formalities (contract, check boating licence and getting to know them a bit). Also I provided them with some local information on where they should have the best chance of catching some big fish, including halibut.

Their history from Oslo area catchwise was close to the jiggs we are using up north, so they looked forward to the next day, a day without the disco-coloured cod from the fjords of Oslo. Could they get some new personal records?

How did it go?

I drove to our cabin in Rostadalen Camping and received some MMS during the day, and what a day it was.

Halibut: 100cm (estimated 20kg)

Cod: 123cm

and several other fishes, but the two above was keepers.

A big thanks to the chef at Hotel Saga in the city center who made them dinner of self caught fish. A very nice extra service, and I assume the celebration of the catch lasted long into the night.

Afterwards when we spoke, they were still totally stoked and happy for new personal records caught on fishing rods.

All the gear they needed was off course available on the boat when arriving as they did not bother to pack equipment on the plane. Much easier to rent fishing gear that is sturdy and you know it will be strong enough if the mighty halibut bites.
